Enchanting Basilica Cistern

Fatih district, located on the European side, hosts tourists from different countries of the world. For this reason, especially foreign investors want to buy a house in Istanbul, taking these details into account. One of these historical places is the Basilica Cistern. The Basilica Cistern is located in the Sultanahmet district, the heart of Old Istanbul, in the district of Fatih, southwest of Hagia Sophia.

This large underground cistern, built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian (527-565), was called the Basilica Palace among the people because of the marble columns rising from the water and appearing as countless. It was built to meet the water needs of the great palace where the Byzantine emperors resided and other residents in the region. Yerebatan Sarnıcı is a giant structure covering a rectangular area of 140 meters in length and 70 meters in width. There are 336 columns, each 9 meters high, inside the cistern, which is descended by a 52-step stone staircase.

The entrance fee to the Basilica Cistern is 30 TL for foreign tourists. Entrance tickets are available at the door. It also hosts events from time to time. The cistern, which was restored for the first time in 1500 years, will be open to visitors during this period as well. Fatih district is one of the most popular districts in terms of vital factors such as transportation, tourism, school and hospital. For this reason, it is one of the regions most preferred by foreign citizens who come from abroad and want to live in Turkey when purchasing buildings.
